The site for this residence is located along Scarborough Beach in the Shoreland Zone area. This allows for amazing views and direct access to the seashore. The residence has 7,950 SF with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 4-car heated garage, 2500 bottle wine cellar, 5 stone fireplaces, radiant heated flooring, cherry custom flooring in some areas, and an unbroken ocean view with 52’-0” long deck. Considering the extravagant programming and detailing of this large residence, a sustainable home still resulted from the design; it has passive solar heating and cooling.

Shaw Residence
Woodstock, Maine (2010)
This weekend ski home exerts continuity from its interior spaces to the sight of the White Mountains. The design of this house maximizes stunning views of Mount Washington, Mount Abraham, etc, with a steeply sloping site and an edge drop-off. This new residence located in Maine’s Western Mountains has 2,450 SF and 2 stories, which includes 3 bedrooms, and 3 baths. The residence has a central raised fire place built in Rumford Style with a blue stone hearth. It has both active (with water and photovoltaic) and passive (through the windows) solar energy sources. This residence has radiant slab hydronic heating which is preheated with solar hot water. The ornate cupola that adds to the silhouette of the building is operable and naturally ventilates the house, with the help of a whole house fan. The living spaces outside consists of recycled decking material with stainless steel guardrail. The roof on the south side was also extended four feet past the house to provide passive summer shading while allowing deep sun penetration during the winter.

Long Lake, Naples, Maine (2006)
